Mandala Art Therapy workshop

We invite you to become a part of a totally unique and creative artistic workshop combining therapeutic art practices, sound healing, mindfulness and well-being based here in the Northern Beaches.

Sound healing uses aspects of music to improve emotional, physical, health and well-being and has been used in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool to heal and rejuvenate the body.

Do the Sand Mandala was such an incredible experience. When one of my girlfriend invited me to be part of it I haven't imagine that I'd find there such a beautiful and special group of woman's. One different from another, distinct cultures, dreams and paths but we were all putting our universal love on it. What did I feel that day? I felt so good, I felt the magic and all the good energy that the whole world needs.

For me, going to the beach is the easiest way where to relax and unwind. When I hard about creating Mandala on the beach I got excited to join Natali. Feeling the wind in the hair, strolling along on the beach, feel the sand between my toes while creating this amazing mandala and sharing our life stories with those incredible girls with such a positive energy - that was simply one amazing afternoon. All of us made some connections between our mandala and the feelings and emotions that we experienced while creating it.

If you're wanting to do something out of the ordinary that will inspire others and bring out the creativity in you, then look no further than this beautiful, inspiring soul.
I have been fortunate enough to have done two sand mandala workshops she's hosted and have always left feeling so free, light, and positive.
Natalia has an incredible energy and takes her craft seriously. One of the mandalas we did used Aboriginal language/signs so it felt quite personal in a sense because it was based on Australian culture, which I learned a lot about!! Invite the gals for a few hours of sun, sand, inspiration, and salty air.

Amazing and unique experience. Creating art and spreading it with and to our neighbours, friends, families, communities is what makes it so special. Thank you, Natalia, for spreading love, peace and harmony into the world!

SOME WORDS ABOUT MY MANDALA JOURNEY

It is interesting for me to reflect on how my journey from painting on canvas moved into creating artwork on the sand. I feel that what brought me closer to creating sand mandalas was actually the paintings I started to create when I moved to Australia.

During that time, 3 years ago, I became inspired to make artwork from a bird's eye view. I was fascinated by all those beautiful shapes of the rock pools, crashing waves and Australia's extraordinary coasts. What fascinated me the most was the magnificence of the drone views from the sky, scenes that looked so special and different from my everyday perspective. I could lose myself in that new, unexplored beauty and wanted to find a way to capture this through my art making.

Creating with my Hands

After finishing my first ocean painting in a new continent, I decided to follow my inner intuition. I repainted it with my bare hands, feeling the paints and canvas in a new, tactile way. It felt more natural to shape the landscapes with my hands instead of paintbrushes and since then all of my artwork has been created in this way.

Now I see that there is a beautiful connection between creating mandalas in the sand and painting with my hands.

To me, everything that we are creating is like a message to the world. As we are evolving, becoming more conscious and caring for others, we want to share our gained wisdom so that we can share our reality and our perspective. One of my biggest life satisfactions and pleasures has always been passing the knowledge and wisdom I have learned and experienced to others.

The idea of creating Mandala art on the sand was a part of my journey and something that I had thought about, even before I started to work for the Aboriginal Fine Art Gallery in Sydney. I created my first Mandala on the sand in Tamarama beach 2 years ago, but as I developed a deeper knowledge of indigenous culture and explored their art more closely, I sensed the deeper connection between indigenous art making and my mandalas.

Aboriginal art is mostly made from a bird's eye view perspective, created as they travelled and mapped the country. Drawing their stories on the sand and the rocks at least 50 000 years ago, Indigenous art has a strong history, representing an intrinsic connection to the earth and imbued with natural symbolism and deep spirituality.

It's a great honour to see this connection between creating Mandalas on the sand and Aboriginal art and I aim to explore these traditional practices in contemporary forms, passing on ancient messages to create deeper cultural awareness while exploring something new.

Mandala Art Therapy Workshops

The idea for Mandala Art Therapy workshops emerged in my soul from my previous experiences with art therapy and the great impact creating had on my participants. I also wanted to create this workshop as a way to bring people together to collectively explore their own creativity. I hosted art therapy workshops back in Europe and then here in Sydney, helping people, mostly children explore the process of putting paint and ideas to canvas and experiencing first hand the healing effect this had on people. The creative process helps people explore their emotions and develop self awareness. Art therapy is a way to reduce anxiety and stress, releasing pain and creating a deeper understanding of the conscious mind. It can create an energy of an enlightenment of the soul. It is a meditation in movement.

The Mandala Creating Journey

An artist usually makes artwork independently, staying in that process by themselves. With this idea, I wanted people to be a part of the creation, part of the process, not only as observers but as active art makers sharing this journey. During my workshops, participants come together to create a mandala in the sand, learning in the process more about the history of the mandala and its significance in Hindu and Buddhist spirituality as a symbol of healing and mindfulness. The experience of creating a huge mandala on Sydney's beautiful beaches is meditative and enriching in itself and with today's modern technology, guests to the workshop will not only have a memory of the unique artwork that they created but also have an audiovisual drone video and photos to keep or print as an artwork for their home.

Just You and the Earth

A special part of this process and of creating Mandala art on the sand, is that a person does not need anything. It is only you, with bare hands, connecting and touching the ground. As we create art from pure, wild nature, we do not need money for canvas, paints or paint brushes. We do not pollute the environment or use materials and chemicals to breathe in while also benefiting the body moving outside close to the ocean and being part of the beautiful nature that Australia can offer. The Mandala creation journey is a full sensory experience that is more about the therapeutic process of making and feeling than the beautiful end result. The whole process of connecting with other people and the environment is a big part of this workshop that concludes with the satisfaction of seeing your large-scale artwork complete and admiring your new drone photographs that capture your creation from above.

One thing that I have learnt from living on this land and through the art I create is that life becomes more full with multiple perspectives: Those who walk by the mandala on the sand don't see the whole image, all of it's magic. But those who view it from above, from the bird's-eye view get to understand a different standpoint, a reflection that opens different points of view in our lives too. Exploring different perspectives opens the mind and therefore a world of endless possibilities. Mandalas on the sand are also reminders to us that everything is transient. Something that was once there for only a moment, the next day can be swept by water, the wind or movement. This can be seen as a beautiful symbol for life, because everything in life is ever changing & non permanent. I invite you to explore this journey with me in my sand mandala, art therapy workshops. Check the latest events taking place on beaches throughout Sydney here: I look forward to joining you.

Mandala is a Sanskrit word for "magic circle". The circular designs of Mandala symbolizes the idea that life is never ending and everything is connected.
